How do you sharpen a meat knife to sharper than it was originally?
I've been given a set of knives but they'll barely cut raw meat. I need to a sharp knife for preparing fish my dad catches, and the knife set doesn't work (and we don't have anything else suitable in the house). My dad says I should just sharpen the knives I already have, instead of buying proper sushi knives or whatever. Will that actually work? If so, how do I do it?
It might seem like a silly question but my cousin told me that knives are specially designed to only be as sharp as they were intended to be, if you see what I mean. ...Is he just talking crap?? lol thanks for your help
buy an emery stone at hardware shop, they might call it a sharpening stone, theyre for tools but it should do knife too. although there is a thing for sharpening knives that you just pull the knife through it over and over, but personally emery stone would be what i would use.
edit. i should add that to use it, all you do is put some lubricant on it, like a wee spray of wd40 or somethin, and then just rub the edge of the knife on it in a circular motion, its pretty self explanatory. u can even spit on it if u want it doesnt matter what u use really! u can buy wd40 in hardware shop too
